What a week! Everything feels a little brighter and more hopeful, doesn’t it? We have new leadership in the White House, including the historic (and long overdue) addition of our first female Vice President. We can look forward to science-based and proactive steps being taken to finally getting this horrible pandemic under control. There’s so much more I could say, but in honor of last Monday being Martin Luther King Jr. day, I’ll just share this quote:

“We must walk on in the days ahead with an audacious faith in the future.”
— MLK

We photographed a variety of homes this week, from cabins tucked into the woods, to a downtown loft, and everything in-between. It was a busy week for video too, with several projects on the books, including Bethany’s first agent-on-camera video. (If you do only one new thing this year for your business, I can’t suggest appearing on video highly enough!)

We even got some snow - and while it didn’t really stick around for long, it sure made for some pretty aerial photos this week. (Check out a couple above in the slideshow.)

Real estate inventory continues to be low in Southeastern Michigan, and buyers are doing everything they can to be the first to see a hot new listing. One gentleman from Vermont was observed camping out at various listings we photographed this week. Perhaps Bernie is thinking about a move to Michigan?

Speaking of moves, I can now officially report that we’ve expanded our studio space! We moved into The Elevator Building last fall and while we love our space (and the views!) we’re already busting at the seams. (The problem with having your gear spread over multiple locations is that it’s kind of hard to gauge how much space you really need.) Andy and I originally planned to use the space as part office, part storage, and a place to do headshots. Soon after moving in though, we took on some product photography clients too. (No worries, real estate photography is still 100% our jam, but shooting other kinds of work helps us stay in a creative mode and keeps us honing our craft.) Between our gear, and semi-permanent product photography set-ups, we’ve run out of space for shooting portraits. Luckily the unit next door to ours was available, and we decided to take the plunge and double our space. I’ll post photos and info soon, we’re really excited to show it off!

To wrap up, here’s a couple things I found this week that are worth a click:

  • Kamela’s New Digs: This House Beautiful story about the Blair House, (i.e., the President’s guest house) explains the interesting history of this 200,000 square foot residence that has hosted dignitaries like Queen Elizabeth II, Justin Trudeau, and Vladimir Putin. It’s currently where Vice-President Kamela Harris is staying while the Naval Observatory is being renovated.

  • Teal-and-Magenta Forever: If you ever wanted to live in an 90’s time capsule, this St. Paul listing can be yours for $895,000. The soffits in the kitchen are really in a class by themselves.

  • Design Inspo: The Top Clever Renovation Stories of 2020 from Architectural Digest shows off some swoon-worthy homes, starting off with a gorgeous kitchen with green cabinets. Ever since I noticed the dark blue cabinet trend, I started wondering about green cabinets because that’s always been one of my favorite colors. Now every time I come across another kitchen with green cabinets it just gets me more inspired to redo our kitchen. E.W. Kitchens says we can expect to see more green shades in the kitchen in 2021, and I for one am all for it.

  • Earworm: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve most likely been infected by the catchy songs coming from Lubalin , a 30 year old Montreal musician. I have been singing about broccoli casserole and contacting the attorney general for days now to anyone who will listen (mostly the dogs.) His latest effort recruits Jimmy Fallon and Alison Brie and is about blue cheese salad dressing, because, why not?

  • Good news: Boncuk, the delightfully loyal pup who followed her owner to the hospital and waited outside for days , has been reunited with her favorite human. When her family brought her back home, she continued escaping and waited patiently on the steps outside the hospital until he was finally released. (Visit the link to see a video of them being reunited!) We don’t deserve dogs.
