We had the pleasure of photographing and filming this stunning Ann Arbor listing recently. This 6,000+ square foot home sits on 18 acres and offers beautiful views of the property from every room. A true chef’s kitchen with Miele appliances makes cooking a delightful experience, and fresh eggs are as close as the backyard - because yes, this house comes with a climate controlled henhouse!
There’s so much here to delight the senses - you know a house is designed well when it feels amazing even in the heart of winter. The word “cozy” often used to describe small homes, but going through these photos, it’s a word I keep coming back to to describe this house, and I think a lot of that has to do with how good the proportions are. I especially appreciate the scale of the stone fireplace & built-in cabinets in the living room. Two story great rooms have been a trend for awhile, but a lot of times those rooms just feel like “a lot of ceiling” to me, if that makes any sense. Fireplace surrounds that soar to the top of the ceiling just don’t look right to me. But the scale is perfect here, and it just makes this room feel inviting. I also like how the kitchen is just tucked around the corner from the living room. Maybe I’m just a traditionalist, but I feel like a lot of open concept living feels a little too open, and noise is often an issue. This layout strikes the perfect balance.
Ever since I lived briefly in Florida, I’ve been a huge fan of outdoor living space, because lanais are a whole thing down there. And back up north, when we only have a limited number of warm sunny days, a home that gives you the opportunity to take advantage of them is a special thing. This sunroom checks all the boxes: huge windows that bring the outdoors & fresh air in, a beautifully rustic timbered ceiling that makes you feel like you’re up north, and a fireplace and pizza oven. Even in the winter I bet this room gets a fair amount of use.
